Once upon a time, I had a dream. Today, I can almost touch it. Let me share it you guys, let me open my mind and heart to you. This is our world-changing idea, our lifetime project. Click on this link and you will contribute to a better tomorrow for our kids. Click on this link and make our planet a more fair and sustainable place for everybody.
One planet. One cause. One vote
Why?
“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” -Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Because…
a few BAD things are happening as we speak:
- Depletion of natural resources (non renewable ones): oil, minerals, ocean-life.
- Water scarcity
- Hunger problem (food)
- Pollution is “leaking” all over
- Climate Change (yeah, that thing!)
- Growing inequalities among human beings (the rich-poor gap)
and this is leading to:
- Loss of biodiversity (the Earth’s ecosystem is in danger!)
- Shortage of resources, specially basic-needs ones.
- Loss of fertility and thus habitability of vast areas.
- Huge migrations of population driven by survival rather than prosperity.
- And much worse things like wars for the control of resources: water, food, oil (heard about Irak?), etc.
So…
What?
“Change we need. Change we want. Change we are”
We are a group of experts in the new socio-economic model known as “Sustainable Development” (SD), contributing both to its development and putting into practice.
“Sustainable Development” yeah, I’m sure you have heard of it, but … do you really know what it is? Not a lot of people really do in fact. This is were we come to play. We are going to furnish you the tools to understand what it’s all about, how and where to look for the information you need and, most importantly, what YOU CAN DO TO REACT … and contribute.
In that sense, our mission is clear and simple: we want to protect life on Earth by applying sustainable solutions through knowledge, information, research and education.
Our structure is going to be that of an information/communication/social organization with a worldwide network of collaborators, partners and volunteers. We will collect, analyze and distribute information on SD to all the parties concerned: institutions, NGOs, businesses, governments, organizations and, above them all, regular CITIZENS like you and me; and at all levels: local, regional, national and transnational.
In practice, this is going to be implemented through three well-defined branches:
- Info: we are going to interact with the world through our website & magazine: news, articles, data, interviews, etc., on SD (energy, climate, economics, society, environment, etc)
- Communication: we are going to organize and manage “sustainable” events (conferences, meetings, etc.), provide educational services to children/adults, “green” training for workers, etc.
- Social: we will be partnering with various NGOs (Unicef, Greenpeace, Medecins Sans Frontiers, etc.) for social & humanitarian projects.
As of our realms of action, knowing the complexity of the challenges upon us, we want to offer as complete and global perspective (solutions!) as possible, by integrating together a diversity of complementary visions through the 3 pillars of SD (as defined by the UN at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janerio in 1992):
1. People:
- Education & training
- Information &communication
- Social & humanitarian projects
2. Planet:
- Environment
- Climate
- Energy
3. Economy:
- Sustainable management of resources
- Quest for social well-being: health, happiness & prosperity
The 3 pillars of the SD model: People, Planet and Economy.
So yeah, we want to bring change to the table. Change towards a new global model, a more fair and sustainable one from the 2 dimensions of SD:
- Space: equal opportunities & rights for everybody on Earth: freedom, dignity, equality, education, wealth distribution, fair trade, etc.
- Time: respecting future generations’ right for a “habitable” and opportunity-full planet.

Who?
“A single rose can be my garden … a single friend, my world.” –Leo Buscaglia
Us:
A bunch of youngsters from different backgrounds and nationalities: engineers, economists, journalists, environmentalists, humanists, historians, teachers, etc. As of me, my name is Jesus (no kidding!)…what else do you want to know?
- Something about my professional adveture?
- but, for the real deal … check out my blog he he he
International network of collaborators:
Our global view comes from many friends we’ve made on our trips around the planet. We want to know how SD is seen and implemented in Africa, Europe, Asia, America, Australia, etc. We are going to have different sorts of partnerships: some freelancers will provide new and articles to our website/magazine, other will volunteer to manage events, etc.
Other initiatives (future partners ;):
We are open to collaboration with any other entity irrespectively of its nature (business, NGO, government, etc.), nationality, realm (local, regional, national or transnational), etc. We love and seek diversity. In this sense, we believe international platforms like Business Fights Poverty or Idealist.org and many others offer a magnificent communication/networking framework for gathering all motivated people and organizations together and get the boat moving in the right direction.
You:
We need you, the anonymous citizen with his mind full of ideas and his heart of passion. We need everyone of you willing to give a hand, share some thoughts and contribute in the making of this new global society. So, yeah, we’d love your feedback through any channel you can think of: the forum below, our website (under construction), blog, email, in person, etc. For the time being, you can join me directly at jesuspiro@gmail.com
How?
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” -Albert Einstein
Let’s first define a new set of principles for our world to function differently:
And that would take us to a whole new strategy on development. A whole new strategy for our organization:
In this road to the future, some of our building stones will be:
- Global solutions to global problems.
- People first! We exist for and by the people → use of people-based development indicators.
- Targeting the long-term.
- Innovation: openmindedness to new ways and ideas (you are very welcome to brainstorm with us 😉
- Teamwork: complementary visions working together for the common good.
- Lots of good communication: internal and external; discussions and debates are our favorite game 😉
- New, far-reaching tools available (technology at man’s service): mobile communications, Internet (www, email, blogs, social networks, etc.)
- Information management: Today’s vast amounts of fast-paced information scream for effective management techniques as well as clear, well-connected transmission philosophies. In this regard, we are going to: share, classify, filter, analyze and customize the information for every “listener” by using a suitable set of tools the likes of:
- collaborative databases
- internal and external search engines (our little “googles”)
- mining algorithms
- analysis methods
- multimedia approaches
- visualization techniques
When?
“Right here, right now!!”
The oil peak (the fall of our energy/consumption current model!) will arrive in the 2020s, the time lapse where we can effectively fight climate change (and avoid catastrophe!) comprises the next 20-30 years … you name it, our generation, youngsters of today, is the chosen one. Want it or not, it would be too late for our kids to be able to maneuver in a devastated world. The cost of doing nothing (“Business as usual”, the Stern Report) is the greatest among all scenarios. We rather wait no longer. We better put all our hands and hearts to good use now. We are facing the greatest challenge in the history of our species, never before mankind felt itself menaced.
The future lies in our hands. Up to us now.
Thanks for you attention fellow inhabitants of the world.
And remember….
Yes, we can!!
😉
